Let me introduce you to my friend, amazing photographer and new business partner, Maggie Hendrix. Those of you who have been following our progress know she introduced me to her clients and blog followers HERE. I, however, have had a bit more trouble getting her to cooperate with me and MY camera. So, on our way home from our latest session together, I literally made her pull the car over and shot a few pics of her right on the side of the road! (YAY!) Most photographers don't like to be on the other side of the camera, but fair is fair, right? Isn't she a beauty? Not only is she a beautiful person on the outside, she has an amazing fun personality and is just a joy to be around. I am so blessed to call her my friend, and over the moon to have her as a business partner. She is an inspiration to me as an artist, an encourager in my daily walk, and I am a better person because of her.
So, here it is, the name my partner Maggie Hendrix and I have chosen for our new business:

I've been waiting. I've been watching with an expectancy for my favorite color to make it's grand appearance on the gray landscape. And last week, as I was out picking up kids from school, I saw it. YELLOW. There on a bush that only 7 hours prior displayed nothing but brown sticks, were bright yellow blossoms just screaming "Spring is almost here!!!"
I adore the color yellow! It reminds me of these first days of spring, of the sun's warmth and just makes me happy. This year I am especially appreciating the newness of spring and am excited about not only the weather getting warmer but about new beginnings and fresh starts. My hiatus has been good for the soul and a great time to prepare for this new endeavor with my friend and business partner Maggie Hendrix. We are hitting the ground running with a wedding this weekend, several sessions in April and many exciting things to share in the coming weeks and months! Stay tuned! It is for sure an exciting time! Yay for new beginnings! Yay for Spring! Yay for Yellow! ...and Yay for the awesome Forsythia plant growing just over the fence in my neighbor's yard!
So many people invest the money in a nice camera, only to be disappointed when they realize that purchasing a nice camera doesn't make them any more of a great photographer than purchasing a nice guitar would make them a great musician. With the availability and cost effectiveness of digital cameras these days, many people are dabbling in photography without even knowing basic photographic concepts or knowing what it takes to use their cameras to their full potential.
Yesterday I was able to be the "special guest" at a workshop taught by my dear friend Maggie Hendrix to a group of ladies ready to take control of their cameras and learn how to create better personal images. Her workshop served to equip them with the basic information needed to switch their cameras out of automatic and begin to discover the creative freedom of shooting in manual. It's a huge undertaking and takes LOTS of practice, so Kudos to them all for their willingness to learn and Kudos to Maggie for taking the time to teach them! Also, a big thanks to the models who allowed the attendees to quickly put in to practice the huge amount of information they took in. It was a fun day!
I can hardly contain myself!
There are some VERY exciting things happening in the Cheryl Weaver Photography world, and I can't wait to share! The first bit of news is this: My hiatus will be ending soon! When I decided to take this break, I gave myself permission to take as much time as I needed, and I honestly didn't know how much time that would be. My time "off" has proven to be very refreshing and I am thankful to be ending it sooner, rather than later, and with a few surprises to share...soon!
I am going to continue my hiatus through the end of March to implement some of the changes I am making, but will be booking sessions for April and beyond. If you are interested in getting on my calendar, don't delay. I will have a limited number of slots available and the inquiries have already started coming in!
I'll leave you with an image I took during one of our snows this winter. This is the very large dogwood tree that sits in the front yard of our new home. Soon these branches will give way to big beautiful flowery blooms...a reminder that winter never lasts forever. Spring ALWAYS follows winter, and I am ready for "Spring" to show it's face, perhaps more this winter than any other winter in my life.

Since the last blog post announcing my hiatus, I have done a lot of soul searching, a lot of praying and a lot of goal setting. I have decided to spend this time, not only evaluating and feeding my creative soul but, intentionally stretching myself as an artist.
This morning I met up with dear friend Beth Davis of Beth Davis Interiors for a little something new for me. This was a way to put in to practice my desire for a little creative "stretching". For as long as I have known Beth, I have admired her impecable taste, talent and class. She is an artist, and anytime I have had the privelege to work with her, I have come away creatively inspired. This mornings' task was to use my camera and experience as a photographer to capture the design elements and vision that were put together to create these beautiful living spaces.
What an honor it was to be invited into this gorgeous home, and what a blessing it was to be given an assignment that was a bit out of my comfort zone. It was refreshing and challenging all at the same time. Interior design photography proved to be more work than I had envisioned (trust me, I now know, since I moved, removed and repositioned the same object a bazillion times and sometimes just a fraction of an inch just to get it to look right in my view finder) but I think you will agree, the results are worth it!

I'm catching my breath, and resolving for a simpler, more intentional year in 2010. I'm proclaiming this year will be one of new beginnings, balance and health. I am taking a very close look at my priorities and making it a point to put first things, first. I am committing to make an effort to be more honest with myself about my capabilities and my limits.
Now, I know this might come as a surprise to you, but I am NOT superwoman. Try as I may, I have an almost perfect record of failing at it. So, after much prayer and evaluation, I have decided to take a hiatus from my photography business for several months while I do some soul searching into what I want my photography business to look like in the future. I will rest up, feed my creative side and determine what I need to do or what I need to discontinue to make my business a better fit for me. I hope to continue blogging through my break and share snippets of my life, as I see them...through the lens of my camera. :)

ps~ One of the things I had to give up in order to maintain some of my own sanity this fall was a Weaver family Christmas card. So, since I promised I would at least post a pic of the kids here on my blog so everyone could see how much they've grown up, I gathered them together last weekend for a literal split second and got this. All three of them are doing great here in Arkansas, and are maturing into amazing young adults. I am so proud of each of them. :)
